SOC 3090: Sociology of Neighborhoods: R Workshop

In this workshop we will be introducing you to some of the GIS-style capabilities of R and basic introduction to spatial models. We will, also, introduce you to acquiring spatial data online with a focus on US Census data. To use the tutorials and other material we will use a combination of R, RStudio, and Github.

First Step Dowonload R

  • To start download R
  • You will need to select your operating system version:
  • I am using OS X, so the example will follow for Mac, but Windows is similar
  • Choose the latest version 3.3.X
  • Now we will download a populat IDE (Integrated Development Enviroment) RStudio
